Due to you being a teacher, I'm sure you've given the whole thing (how parents create a child with bad behavior) a lot more thought than I have. My mom always said the first 5 years are most important in a child's life as far as forming their personality. I'm curious to hear if you think sending kids to school earlier (3 & 4 yr. old Kindergarten) helps a child if only taking more of the influence away from the parents?

I'm gonna say... the kid is a product of her environment, so she might be a monster in peoples' eyes, but she was created by monsters. No doubt she knows that at home, if she wants something, and people say no, all she has to do is keep bugging them and she will eventually get it. She was probably acting the same way with you because she thinks that that's how you get what you want.

As for the father - he sounds like an all-around champ (not!).

I think you handled things in the best way you knew how, and that it's a good idea to take a different route from now on.

Yes, she does well for her age. I see a lot of people younger than her who can't even walk. All we can hope for is a long life where we can be independent as long as possible.

I think it's rare to find a doctor with that kind of philosophy!

92 and hadn't needed the doctor in 4 years!!?! She must be one healthy lady!

I really like his philosophy of letting her live her life doing what makes her happy. I wish they would have done that with my grandmother instead of sending her in for pokes and prods and surgeries all the freakin' time. Her poor arms looked like pin cushions.

In my experience, this kind of nonsense comes in cycles and yes, it’s maddening and usually a humongous waste of time. Hang in there :)

Also, totally agree with this:

I’ll just say I like to believe that God has better things to do than mess with our lives and sit back and laugh.
